DEBORAH CLYONS
DVM
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Deb Clyons grew up in San Diego amongst various dogs, cats, rats, and a retired racehorse. It was through these animals that she realized she wanted to advocate for their welfare, which she worked to achieve through a veterinary medical approach.

Dr. Deb attended UC Davis and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Evolution and Ecology, and with minors in Art History and Music History. She was the first person in her family to attend university. Upon graduating, she moved to San Francisco to gain more clinical experience in veterinary medicine. She became a Registered Veterinary Technician and started working for the SFSPCA, where she spearheaded improvements in perioperative care protocols for their Spay/Neuter clinic.

Dr. Deb then attended the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, graduating in 2006. She has also received extra-curricular education in pain management, dentistry, and cat-friendly practices. She returned to the SFSPCA, where she and her colleagues elevated the level of medicine and pain management practiced at the shelter and spay/neuter clinic.

Since then, Dr. Deb has become an independent contractor/consultant, allowing her the opportunity to work at various hospitals throughout the Bay Area, and gain insight into ideal veterinary practices. She persists in creating compassionate and pain-free experiences for each patient. Dr. Deb is a certified Cat-Friendly Veterinarian and is working towards a Fear-Free certification (for all animals), as well as the Certified Veterinary Pain (management) Practitioner accreditation.

In her free time, she loves to relax with her cat, Sweet Pea, do yoga, hike amongst tall trees, travel around the world, and learn about history and languages.
